History teaches us that people dance most during times of great moral or economic distress. As the starting point for this solo piece, Mette Ingvartsen drew inspiration from the numerous dance marathons held in the United States during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
She has abandoned their codes of performance to suppress the voyeuristic expectation that presided during these competitions.
The choreographer then researched moments when the madness of dance invaded the public space in different eras. From dances of possession all the way to raves by way of the tarantella, she has gathered images and gestures of uncontrollable dance. This distant inspiration has provided the material, enhanced by personal practices, for a solo that she will perform up close with the audience.
