With his dance company ZOO, which he founded in Brussels in 1998, Swiss- born Thomas Hauert bases his writing on improvisation to explore the tension between the individual and the group, between freedom and constraint, between order and disorder. Following two recent pieces inspired by the turbulent state of the world today, the choreographer bases this work on the physical relationship between life and the earth, as a reminder of our inextricable link with nature. Life, this ingenious diversion of entropic energy that benefits cohesive strength. Life, inseparable from movement, dependent on gravity and yet endlessly seeking to escape it. These fluctuations, these antagonisms at work in our body, constitute the basis, focal point and creative field of this new opus, alert to the complex and fluctuating powers of the universe.
