Le Gymnase CDCN Roubaix – Hauts-de-France came up with the brilliant idea of offering choreographers an opportunity to combine the different ways they see things in a project for young audiences. After the first Twice in February 2019 in which the rigour of the young Emmanuel Eggermont was invited to encounter the imagination of Robyn Orlin, Twice#2 is the result of a commission given to Aïcha M’Barek & Hafiz Dhaou on the one hand and Alexander Vantournhout on the other. In their company Chatha, Aïcha M’Barek and Hafiz Dhaou from Tunisia combine their respective cultures and universes in a blend of music, ballet, film and indepth knowledge of hip hop. Meanwhile Alexander Vantournhout from Belgium,
as knowledgeable about contemporary dance as he is about circus, questions the creative potential that comes out of physical virtuosity and being confronted with objects. The two aesthetically different companies are each invited to create a piece lasting around twenty minutes for the same pair of performers. Twice#2 is heralded as the promise of an encounter between two singular styles of writing to enrich the world of dance for children and young people.
