Training Programme #10 : Catch(ing) up with time

Stéphanie Auberville

Open dialogue between improvisation and contact-improvisation
During this two-hour session, I propose you put aside a definition of improvisation as a source “of a free, personal and spontaneous expression” in order to enter into an exploring improvisation like the construction of a writing in movement. The focus of this week’s research will be the notion of duration, timing, catching up with time, producing the present, stretching time, making it last, taking your time, being alongside time or even out of time.
The warm-up is dedicated to a solo practice of research of physicalities and different states of the body as well as getting attention and perceptions moving.
The second part is dedicated to work in pairs or in groups based on scores/instructions that you will be able to perform and evolve together. These scores/instructions are from the corpus of improvisation such as contact-improvisation, the challenge here being to get the forms to enter into dialogue and to play with the notion of time.
