Leaves of Grass

“Resist much, obey little”. For his latest creation, Brussels-based American choreographer Bud Blumenthal takes the title of his piece from the collection of the same name by the sensualist poet Walt Whitman. The central theme of this show is nature, placing on stage plants fitted with numerous sensors that wait and capture their movements. The emitted signals in turn influence the rhythm and ambiance of the piece, the dancing of the six performers. This invisible contact and reciprocal attention between the human and the
plant create an ecosystem of connections and sensations, bringing harmony to and interactions between the organic and the digital. Leaves of Grass reveals itself to be
a poetic stance taken by a choreographer preoccupied with the ravages of climate change and the future of the planet in
a sensual and political (re)awakening.
