“We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence,” Martin Luther King told the world in his speech in Washington in 1963 made famous by the phrase “I have a dream”. In turn, Salia Sanou has a dream, a dream of the collective in which the we prevails over the I, a dream of a reconciled humanity that would ban the domination of people and bodies forever. The seriousness of the subject matter, however, does not overshadow levity for this choreographer from Burkina Faso, the land of honest men, and he opts for a form of danced comedy with words and music by Gaël Faye and Capitaine Alexandre.
Eight dancers and four singers support this ambition of making tolerance enchanting again, coming together to invent the “joyous daybreak” of which Reverend Luther King spoke.
