In spring, La Raffinerie is opening the Cabaret Welbeek run by the Lebanese artist Alexandre Paulikevitch, the creator of several pieces and a specialist in baladi — commonly known as belly dancing. A dedicated artist who campaigns to stop the body being taboo, he regularly arranges cabarets in Beirut, spaces open to celebration, beauty and conviviality. Alexandre Paulikevitch is devising the Cabaret Welbeek especially for La Raffinerie and Molenbeek to be a place of exchange and encounter between local artists or those passing through the LEGS Festival plus musicians from Beirut. On the bill, a confusion of genders and disciplines, singing, dancing, sequins, poetry and politics.
