Jan Martens is THE choreographer on whom Belgium should now depend. His obsessive work on the gesture and his absolute confidence in what the body can express have given him a huge profile in just a few years.
In any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones, he expands his community of dancers, represented here by an atypical, intergenerational “corps de ballet” consisting of seventeen unique individuals.
He turns the status of claims and rebellion into a driving force for this group who can embrace a multitude of identities and find their own space without getting in anyone else’s way.
In this new piece, Jan Martens turns the stage into a field of ideological experimentation where the fact of being together does not stop them being individuals. A soundtrack of protest songs from different eras, ranging from Kae Tempest to Max Roach & Abbey Lincoln by way of Henryk Górecki, marks points of reference along the way in this quest for a better future.
