100% POP is a tribute to Grace Jones, the famous Jamaican singer, actress and model. As a black superstar, she has had a far-reaching influence on pop culture and introduced a new, shifting image of the black body. In a monologue bursting with infectious energy that combines voice, dance and music, Nora Chipaumire talks about how her discovery of Grace Jones and about her own youth in Zimbabwe, her longing for independence and the rise of music on television. 100% POP is the second part of a triptych about the emancipation of the black body in which Chipaumire embraces and challenges stereotypes. Zimbabwe’s Chimurenga music, dub, Black Noise and of course tracks by Grace Jones are mixed live to form an explosive cocktail.
