Surfing the Archive

Confronted with the SARS-CoV-2 crisis, we unfortunately have to cancel the 25th edition of the festival.

The mission of the festival has always been to support artistic creation, and we keep this as our core mission today. In a global crisis where the artistic community also is financially weakened, we aim to support the artists and collaborators of the festival with co-production contributions and cancellation compensations.

You can contribute to our action by buying Ghost Tickets (€10/20) or a Ghost Pass on our website until May 30th. Your help is needed. A lot of costs have already been incurred in the preparation of the festival, and we won’t be able to count on ticket incomes, nor several of our punctual subsidies.

Some years ago during summer, Fabrizio Terranova travelled to California to make a portrait of Donna Haraway Story Telling for Earthly Survival.
Only a part of this material – as a tip of the iceberg – emerged in the film that Terranova premiered in Kunstenfestivaldesarts in 2016.
Surfing the Archive is the launch of a future online platform where all the remaining hours of interview with Haraway will be made available and free to all. Now, for three days during the Free School, the archive will already be made accessible at the festival centre: each visitor will have the possibility to dive underneath the surface of Haraway’s ocean of thoughts, to discover the hidden part of the iceberg.
For the launch of this project Fabrizio Terranova imagines a daily talk show, where each day a selection of different video fragments becomes the starting point of a conversation between the host and a special guest: Isabelle Stengers, Donna Haraway (live from Santa Cruz) and Houria Bouteldja.
Surfing the Archive aims at sharing and activating myriad ways of thinking while surfing together inside the complexity of our vacillating worlds.
