When he came from Senegal at the age of seven, Amala Dianor said goodbye to the African dance that had accompanied every moment and event in his life. Michael Jackson and Bruce Lee gave him a taste for free dance, making him the star of the playground. Doing hip hop gave his movement a particular fluidity that went on to be enriched at the rather more formal CNDC (National Centre of Contemporary Dance) in Angers. This equipped him with a choreographic knowledge ranging from African rhythms to the rigour of contemporary dance by way of the street. It gave him a desire to re-trace the journey he himself had taken, between the north and south. For a few years now, he has been creating choreographies that are open to the world, inviting the audience to a dialogue elegantly reproduced by his body-archive, shared here with Souleymane Ladji Koné from Burkina Faso and PanSun Kim, a contemporary dancer from Korea.
