Salia Sanou’s dance is inspired by a “desire for horizons”, the title he gave to one of his recent creations. Driven by the belief that culture brings people closer together, Salia Sanou establishes “the dialogue of giving and receiving” following an idea cherished by Léopold Sédar Senghor. In Multiple-s, he offers himself up to a series of face-to-face encounters that invite the other person “to a parallel confrontation in complementarity and otherness”. It is a trilogy spread over two seasons that Charleroi danse will be presenting in full, featuring Babx, who brilliantly and delicately blends his own words with those of writers such as Genet, Césaire and Baudelaire, Germaine Acogny, the grande dame of African dance and founder of the École des sables in Senegal, and the novelist Nancy Huston in a dialogue centred on exile and displacement. The performance reconstructs the territories of each one, giving rise to “a field of equilibrium or loss combined with the gesture”.
