A masters student in Arts and Choreography at Brussels’ Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts – École Supérieure des Arts (ARBA-ESA), Milø Slayers – his stage name – presents here a distillation of his two years of research on the notion of monstrousness. Combining contemporary dance with self-taught hip hop, his solo questions the body in all its plasticity and as a place of reflection. Where are the limits between the “normal” (normative) body and a body perceived as deformed or monstrous? What are the contradictions in the idea of the monster? Are you a “monster” if you feel that you’re neither a man nor a woman, but something between the two? To bring these different phases of monstrousness to the stage, Milø Slayers, who at one point ends up naked on stage, is inspired as much by artists – writers, painters, philosophers, directors– as he is by dance forms such as vogue, tribal fusion, butoh and new style.

A range of different perspectives are revealed simultaneously before the eyes of an audience who remain standing for a more active reception of the body.
