Based in Brussels for fifteen years, the French performer Gaël Santisteva cultivates the circus artist side of his personality and uses it to inspire the creative research work he conducts as part of Gilbert & Stock, an organisation founded with Lara Barsacq. Here he creates an “ambiguous fiction”, an “augmented version of reality”, a performance sheathed in artifices of the spectacular, playing with it and liberated from it as spontaneity interferes with the precision of the writing.
With wigs and sequins, skates and slippers, an automated curtain and tap dance shoes, songs and wizardry, hypnosis and confidences, Gaël Santisteva and his associates Ondine Cloez and Jani Nuutinen — plus a surprise guest — transform three little magic tricks into the material of something derisory, the flavour of which lingers.
